Ray and Raymond

Story

I got interested in this movie because of the producer Alfonso Cuarón.

The story is about two brothers and their father. Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor acted as the brothers in the movie.

Its a nice story about father, son relations and life in general. The two brothers have a difficult childhood with their father and has grown lot of resentment against him.

Their father died and his last wish is that his two sons attend his funeral and bury him by digging the pit. They have to travel together for their fathers funeral. This opens up an emotional turmoil.

This leads to both brothers has to reconcile with their past and finding out about their father. They meet different characters who know about their father with unexpected conversations.

Analysis

The question it really brings is do we ever know our parents completely. We assume we know them but do we really know them.

It didn’t receive nice reviews because the movie feels normal without any speciality. The movie has good humor and well written characters. Director made a light movie which just go with the flow.

The father presence is felt through out the movie without having any flashbacks. Both brothers characterization is good, affected differently by their father and ended up growing differently. Both have same names. One has gone through multiple marriages and other is a recovering drug addict who lost his wife.

Watch it to revisit your childhood traumas and may be find some solace.
